Opening ceremony of the Ponton Photo Festival
After years of dreaming and doubting, the crazy idea of shining a spotlight on the city of Pointe-Noire through photography has finally become a reality: the Ponton Photo Festival is born.
The lack of support from local businesses and the absence of financial backing delayed this moment for many years. This first edition was made possible thanks to the support of the French Institute of Congo, our sole sponsor and partner.
In the land of rumba, it is clear that music reigns, and photography rarely gets the attention it deserves. Yet, almost miraculously, we succeeded in convincing the city hall of Pointe-Noire to join us on this journey by authorizing the use of public spaces.
On Saturday, June 21st 2025, the festival’s opening ceremony took place at La Poste, in the presence of Gaëlle Métélus, Deputy Director of the French Institute, Philippe Mboumba Madiela, socio-cultural advisor representing the Mayor, Mama Jackie, wife of photographer Maurice Bidilou, as well as curious visitors and art lovers who came to celebrate this historic moment.
For the first time in the city’s history, roundabouts, public gardens, and the Côte Sauvage will be adorned with photographs by several local and international artists.
